Mise à jour des pilotes graphiques
Pour mettre à jour les pilotes de la carte graphique, il vous faut connaître la marque et le modèle de votre carte graphique.Quelle carte graphique je possède ?
Si vous ne connaissez pas la marque de votre carte graphique, veuillez suivre ces indications :Sous Windows XP
- Cliquer sur Démarrer
- Panneau de configuration
- Système
- Matériel
- Gestionnaire de périphériques
- Dans la nouvelle fenêtre, cliquer sur Cartes graphiques
Sous Windows Vista et 7
- Cliquer sur Démarrer
- Panneau de configuration
- Système
- Sur le menu de gauche, choisir Gestionnaire de périphériques
- Dans la nouvelle fenêtre, cliquer sur Cartes graphiques
Sous Windows 8
- Ouvrir la Charms Bar
- Paramètres
- Infos PC
- Sur le menu de gauche, choisir Gestionnaire de périphériques
Vous devriez voir la marque et le modèle de votre carte graphique par exemple : Nvidia (la marque) GeForce 8800 GTS (le modèle).
Si votre carte graphique apparaît sous le nom de "Carte graphique (VGA standard)" ou encore "Carte vidéo de base Microsoft", c'est qu'il manque un pilote pour qu'elle soit correctement reconnue par Windows. Il est possible d'utiliser AIDA64 pour obtenir des infos sur la marque et le modèle.
Connaitre la version du driver installé
- AMD : Rendez vous dans catalyst Control Center, onglet informations -> Logiciel et regarder la version de Catalyst.
Comparer avec la version disponible sur le site, exemple:
Il ne vous reste plus qu'à désinstaller les anciens composants (drivers, catalyst etc...) et à mettre votre carte vidéo à jour.

Spécificité des ordinateurs portables
Nvidia et AMD sont des fabricants de circuits graphiques et s'ils éditent bien des spécifications précises pour l'intégration de leurs produits sur les cartes filles à destination des assembleurs et en assurent le développement des pilotes, il en est tout autrement pour les circuits graphiques pour PC portables.Les deux fondeurs se contentent de fournir aux fabricants de PC portables le circuit et un driver générique sur lequel s'appuie l'intégrateur pour développer le driver final commercialisé avec le PC.
De facto, c'est sur le site du constructeur du PC qu'il faut rechercher le bon pilote.
D'ailleurs, les avertissements sont bien présent et explicites chez Nvidia ou AMD :

Les circuits graphiques de dernière génération étant de plus en plus complexe, les fabricants de PC hésitent maintenant à retoucher les pilotes standards fournis par AMD/Nvidia et ceux-ci éditent désormais des pilotes plus compatibles que par le passé, mais il reste parfois nécessaire de passer par le site du fabricant du PC ou d'user d'astuce pour intégrer les drivers pour cartes filles.
